12-Step ADHD Style

Imagine sitting in a room with other adhd folks, as if we were in a 12-step program to help us stop being adhd because, well, we all know what disasters befall us when we try to interact with the “normal” world, and so, we just gotta break this “habit”:

Hi, my name is J…oops. I started to write Hi, my name is Georgia, and instead I was going to write “Hi, my name is ADHD…” then I realized no, that’s not what I intend to say, and so instead I started to write Georgia, but I put down a J instead, about to write Jorja…Oh wait, isn’t there an actress who used that spelling? I really like that spelling. It’s so cool. But it’s also why when I give my name to people I always say “Georgia, like the state,” so they will spell it right, except that sometimes I still get asked, “how is that spelled?”

Ok, Hi, my name is Georgia, and I am ADHD. Who came up with that name? Why is it a deficit? Oh wait, yeah, it’s a deficit because I don’t fit in with the rest of the world and so I end up failing at various efforts despite the fact that I am, really, quite brilliant. I mean, really brilliant. My faculty had such faith in my promise as a student, and I let them down. Down….I used to have a down coat — I bought a full length down coat in preparation for my move to Iowa back in the winter of 1984…oh wait…

Hi, my name is Georgia, and I am ADHD…oh…ok, my time is up? Really…but I have so much more to say! Ok I know every body needs to have a turn but I spend my days in silence with nobody to talk to because….shut the fuck up Georgia. You are letting your addiction control you! I mean really, it’s just an excuse to be lazy, right?

Your turn. Go…
