So, I see you are that "love it or leave it" kind of guy, suggesting that no one has the right to criticize what they are doing, because they do, after all, own it.

And yet, you go ahead and offer your own opinions on it, not all of them flattering RAH RAH RAH! So apparently, YOU are allowed to criticize even tho you say the rest of us shouldn't bother, because yada yada yada yada.

It's the same kind of attitude people throw out at critics of any publication, tv show, movie, whatever. Don't like it? Don't write for it. Don't watch it.

Which means you are full of beans. Don't like trump? Don't vote for him. But shut up with the criticism.

I don't know how you feel about the trumpster, but what you say here about people criticizing the contest is pretty much the same thing.

Reminds me of how, in the days of my late teens and early adulthood when the rat wing (SIC) told critics of the Vietnam War: "Love it or Leave it." As in, if you don't like what the government is doing, then LEAVE.

We have every right to criticise what Medium does. Just because we don't own it doesn't mean we have no right to criticise. We DO pay for it. Therefore we are CUSTOMERS. Therefore we have the right -- even the duty -- to criticise what we don't like.

What's more, as someone who has done significant study of mass media, I can tell you with authority:

Medium WANTS you to tell them what you don't like.

It's called cheap (as in, FREE) marketing research. Any publication (or other medium of communication) WANTS to hear from the people who participate in it, whether audience members or content producers or subscribers or even outside respondents.

Because THAT is how they figure out how to better please all of the above...so they can MAKE MORE MONEY.

This "either/or" absolute division of choices to be THIS or THAT, with nothing in between, does no one any good, including Medium.

BTW if you'd submitted this to me for a grade (retired college writing professor here) at best you'd get a C or C-, with the most points taken off for lack of attention to the basics of logic. Not to mention a poverty of insight into what's involved here.

Yeah, I know...pretty sure you don't like what I'm saying...but hey, if you don't like it, don't read it.

I don't normally bother with this level of critique on Medium or any other social media (tho I do tear into MAGAts). But really, if you want to learn to write better, you'd do well to listen.
