That is standard "colorblind" racist response to reports of experiences like this.

My assessment of such responses is that it comes down to this: if there is ANY possible explanation for such a story, then that explanation takes precedence over the reality of statistics.

Right wingers as well as "liberals" hung up on rationalist excuses for white behavior will ignore any and all statistics that indicate how common those experiences are among black people and people of color vs. the very much LESS COMMON those experiences are among white people.

Racists ("regular" or colorblind) live in a statistics-free world whenever any racist or other prejudicial acts (egregious or otherwise) are pointed out to them. If they have observed a SINGLE exception, that single exception to them negates all other experiences reported by black people and people of color.

Aggravating, to say the least. Infuriating more likely.

In all my 73 years with more than 100 airline boarding experiences post 9/11, I have been taken aside ONLY ONCE, and it was explained as my just happening to fall into their numerical pattern of checking every x person going through the line regardless of any other sign.

AND I was treated very politely, with many apologies.

That should be EVERYONE'S experience.

PS I LOVE YOUR HAIR.
