You are too young (I'm guessing) to remember the late 70s/early 80s when white women got afro perms. Sort of like a white Angela Davis, but with a whole lot less hair.
I leaned into it briefly. Heck I have some pics around somewhere, but these were taken long before digital cameras...
The main reason I chose it (aside from it being a popular style) was how it simplified hair care for me. Just run a comb through it, do some lifts with the handle of a rat-tail comb, and voila! Took all of 2 minutes. Sometimes less.
I let it grow out after about 2 years. The trend was rather brief, to tell you the truth. White women got razzed for it on both sides of the racial spectrum. I got a super short hair cut to get rid of the ends.
